Busy Bee

It has been quite a journey so far, as the last couple months have been crazy busy! I first would like to apologize for not being able to sit down and write what has been going on in my life, but I surely will share with you what has been going on!

Since my last post a handful of events have been going on!

1. My last two months have been taken over with softball. We have traveled to Florida for a spring break trip, and all over the Midwest (Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin). Each weekend is taken up with games while during the week we have practices on top of my homework, classes, prep for Miss Iowa!

2. If you haven't already known 'World Down Syndrome Day' was March 21st and I got to be a little creative with some fun socks!

3. I am still looking for some help to raise money for my Miss Iowa funds, I need to raise a total of 250.00 for Miss Iowa which is on top of my 100.00 raise for Miss Muscatine! I would love to have your love and support to help me through my Miss Iowa process! Anything would be greatly appreciated! :)

4. I had a huge help with my hair for Miss Iowa. This appointment was to prep me up for my shots for Miss Iowa program book. With the help of those at A- new- U in Muscatine, I got to change up my hair for a little bit more brightness! Check it out!

5.Thanks to my best friend for hooking me up with a healthy lunch! Everyone should check out NutriSport& Smoothie in the Cedar Rapids area! SO DELICIOUS and healthy!
😊🍓🍌🍴loved my wrap and smoothie!!! #healthy #swimsuit
Before heading back to school, I had to stop in at Start To Finish Nutrition in Muscatine to grab breakfast! I had my aloe shot, AP tea and nutter butter shake! Beyond delicious! I always have to make time to get my shake when I'm in Muscatine! 😊 I also got a couple hydrate packets to help me through my last couple weeks of softball! Thanks Mike!

6. Health help

STAYING ALIVE- Only 20% of how long you live is determined by your genes, the other 80% is in your hands.
Follow these 9 habits for living a longer, better life:

We have to Re-think food.... We don't eat for merely the "taste" of food or how it entertains our taste buds...we eat for the empowerment of food. This is the beauty of Raw week. It allows the food, in its natural state, the opportunity to process these nutrients. Check these food facts out from Medical Medium.

Give Your All

It's been some time before I have last blogged, but it has been one busy month. Staying up to date with school and homework, staying on top of my duties for Miss Muscatine as well as preparing for Miss Iowa and also softball (meetings, practices, lifting and conditioning). As much as I have on my plate, there is nothing I would trade to be the busy bee that I am. As I start into my Junior softball season at Quincy University, we head down to Florida for our opener! I would love your support not only as your Miss Muscatine, but as a community to root on my team as we prepare for our year! If anyone would like to follow our games, they can find more information on our twitter page: "QUHawkSoftball" or also a live stream online at our Quincy University Softball homepage!

Over the last month I have been so honored to help promote, make appearances and even help out around the community at home and near school! Since last time I blogged, the first event to pop up was an awareness day for my teammates sister.

SMA syndrome awareness: today we wore purple in honor of Hannah Scrum (sister of Rachel Scrum on Quincy softball team). SMA syndrome is a rare, potentially life-threatening gastro-vascular disorder characterized by a compression of the third and final portion of the duodenum by the abdominal aorta (AA) and the overlying superior mesenteric artery. Stay strong Hannah!

Following after this awareness day, was an event in Muscatine! I was able to be a part of the Muskie Booster Cake Auction at Muscatine High School! While last year brought in 32,000$ for boosters, we surely broke the record this year! Might I add, ONE cake sold for 15,000$, how awesome!! Not only did I get to be around those from my community, but I got to interact, help raise money for the boosters and much more. Thanks to the Booster Club for allowing me to be involved!

Another great event that is happening THIS SATURDAY (February 27th) is the Polar Plunge in Quincy, Illinois. The Polar Plunge, presented by the Law Enforcement Torch Run and GEICO, is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes by taking a dip into the frigid Illinois waters in the middle of the winter.
In 2016, the Polar Plunge will challenge thousands of brave jumpers at 21 locations across Illinois. It’s a great way for everyone – individuals, organizations and businesses – to get involved in supporting Special Olympics Illinois! Quincy University is trying to raise money for Special Olympics! Anything can help! If you need, please donate through the Quincy Program or anything at all! Thank you for all your help! God bless.
To donate:
1. Go to plungeillinois.com
2. Click "Support a Plunger"
3. Search "QU Hawks for SO"
4. Go to Roster
5. Find a plunger you would like to support

As this great event helps out Special Olympics, another great day to help Children through Children's Miracle Network is Tuesday, March 8th! On this day, IHOP will be holding National Pancake Day. IHOP will be giving out a free stack of pancakes which encourages guests to donate to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals! IHOP is doing a wonderful thing for these children and even just a dollar makes a difference!

EVENT TO CHECK OUT!
"Kolors 4 Kids Fun Run"
Saturday, July 9th at 10:30am
Muscatine, Iowa Riverfront
This fundraiser is to help raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa! What a great way to get outside, have some fun and donate money to a great cause!
To sign up or even volunteer: http://kolors4kids.com/event/kolors-4-kids-5k-fun-run/

As the Children's Miracle Network has helped out many children there is one in particular which stands out to me and my team. Our impact player: Sydney Mead. Sydney has been part of the Quincy University Softball team as of last year, throughout the year we treat Sydney as one of the players. As Sydney takes part in many of the Lady Hawks' team functions, we support Sydney as she continues her ongoing battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of blood cancer found in children. Tomorrow as a team, we will wear Orange as it symbolizes "leukemia"-- all in support for our girl, Syd.

On Facebook, like "Friends of Syd" to keep up to date on her activities. Also, if you have the time, watch this amazing video of Sydney as she brought tears to many eyes.

One of the most recent events took place this past Sunday, where I got to be involved with the Runway Prom &Pageantry Photoshoot! The location of the store is in Mt. Pleasant and also has MANY dresses along with 50% OFF SNEAK PEAK this Saturday and Sunday! I not only was able to dress up in plenty of dresses but I also got to spend time with my Pageant sisters! It was an amazingly fun experience that I would love to do a million times! I will upload all of the pictures from the event when I receive them from the photographer but here is a few from the crazy times I got with my pageant sisters! Thank you again Runway Prom &Pageantry!!

Check out their new page& this awesome video from the event:

As this past month has been a crazy adventure, I also have been staying up to date with Blue Zone Project in Muscatine! Remember to like the page on facebook to keep up to date with information!

https://www.bluezones.com/2016/02/jamie-oliver/

Also! Around Muscatine Hyvee's there is now a 'Blue Zones Food' section. In this section, you will find MANY foods which are friendly, healthy meals for "on the go". This is an incredible way to have your meals prepped and ready to go within seconds!

As I have been at school in Quincy, I have still been in touch with my trainer: Jon Hunt from 8 ONE 8 Fitness. He has been a tremendous help on keeping me active and setting my workouts from 3 hours away. I wanted to give a special thank you to Jon as he has been very lenient with my schedule and helped me out over the past couple months. If you would like to get in touch with Jon or check out his page, please look at the link below!

I am still trying to raise money for Children's Miracle Network as this is my key in at Miss Iowa! I would love your help! My goal is up to 300$!

My life will be very busy in these next couple months and I can not wait for the adventures ahead. One thing which has stood out to me within the last week is a quote I came across and has stuck with me: "you have never really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you". I hope you each can take something positive out of each day and keep growing with your lives! I will try to stay in touch with everyone as much as possible and I would love your support in my travels ahead! I hope everyone has had an amazing 2016 so far and I wish you all a great couple weeks ahead!

Sincerely,

Kaylee Jones, Miss Muscatine 2016
