Showcase Your Talents!

I find one of the easiest ways to get involved is showcasing one of your talents. In my case, this means Irish Dancing and teaching. I love to teach the rich history behind Irish Dancing and the dance itself. For this Saint Patrick's Day, that is exactly what I did. I was able to dance at the Muscatine Lutheran Homes for the residents and staff. Along with dancing, I spoke to the residents about who I am and where I come from. The highlight of this performance was when I had to opportunity to teach a 102 year old an Irish Jig! I hope I can move that well when I am her age. :)  Enjoy some pictures from my afternoon. Volunteer Iowa Day at the Capital!

This Monday I was able to meet with Iowa legislators and discuss further support for Iowa volunteers. Volunteer Iowa Day at the Capital offered me the opportunity to talk to the legislators one on one and promote volunteering policies that benefit Iowa volunteers and creating a pro-volunteer culture in Iowa.

A Day as a Fairy Godmother

This Saturday, I spent the day in Newton, IA making little girls look and feel like princesses. I worked with the Newton Fairy Godmothers to do makeup, nails, hair, pictures, and provide dresses/shoes for 45 little girls to have them prepared for an annual daughter/father dance, called Princess and Papa's Dance.  Every little girl left with their own tiara and corsage to wear to the dance. It was also great to spend the day with my sister titleholder Leah Bunkers, Miss Pearl City 2014.

I Dance for Those That Can't

In the past year, I have become closely involved with Children's Miracle Network Dance Marathons. When I attended Saint Mary's University of MN, I was honored to be the founding President of SMU Dance Marathon. It took five months of hard work and amazing support of the SMU Dance Marathon Committee, but in our first year, the SMU Dance Marathon raised close to $2,000 and had over 300 dancers in attendance. I am proud to say this new SMU tradition continued this year with the second annual SMU Dance Marathon on February 1 and was thrilled to be a part of it!

Dance Marathons are an amazing opportunity to give to your local community and support our Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.  For more information visit http://dancemarathon.com/

My First Official Day as Miss Muscatine

Radio interview, meeting the Mayor, Lt. Governor, and the Governor, and attending a Young Professionals Network dinner started my appearances as Miss Muscatine.

My day started in the radio studio with Andy Foster. Andy makes interviewing fun and easy! We ended up just talking more than recording the interview. Be listening for my interview and public service commercials on Vintage Sound. :)

Next, I listened to the Lt. Governor and the Governor speak and announce they will run for reelection. I was very impressed with their work in Iowa and am excited for what they still have to offer. Here are some pictures!

Lastly, I attended a Young Professionals Network dinner where I was able to meet the leaders in Muscatine and the future leaders of Muscatine. I was amazed to see so many successful and influential community members gathered together working toward the same goal. The Young Professionals Network works to connect professionals together, volunteer, and create new ways to enrich the Muscatine community.

My Thursday was great, hope yours was too! My next appearances are this Saturday. :) Enjoy your day!
